NYC Theatre Spaces | How to Search

You can search for spaces in two ways:

Searching for a specific space by name

If you have a particular space in mind, enter its name in the box above labeled "by space name" and click "Go."

Note: Some spaces may not be available for use because:

they are fully booked for the foreseeable future;
they are renovating or expanding;
they are presenters only and do not rent their space; or
they don't want to be listed.

Searching by your criteria

Enter your requirements: space location, size of stage area, audience capacity, rental rate per time period (such as per hour or per week), and/or purpose (rehearsal, performance, audition, class/instruction, etc.). Then click the "Search" button.

To narrow your results by specific criteria, such as a space's physical features, acoustical features, and/or stage configuration, try using the Advanced Search, located at the bottom of the search box on the homepage.

Important: Regarding cost, we suggest that you enter rates slightly higher than your budget because:

Your search will yield all spaces that rent for rates at or below the rate you request.
You may be able to negotiate a lower rate when you contact the facility.
Some facilities offer discounts for not-for-profit organizations.
Some facilities include more services and equipment in their basic rate.

Getting details and contacting spaces

The "Search Results" page will list the spaces that match the criteria you entered. For details, click on the space names.

The "Space Details" page gives you dimensions of the performers' area, audience seating configuration, closest transportation, available personnel and equipment, and more specifics on rental. If the facility has a website, you can go to it directly.

For any space that interests you:

Contact the facility manager by phone, fax or email to schedule a site visit
Ask more specific questions
Check on available dates and times
Negotiate rates — listed rates are sometimes negotiable
Leave your contact information: some spaces book far in advance but may have cancellations

Suggest a space

If you know of a space where actors can rehearse or perform, please contact us and give us the space's name, location, and — if you can — a contact person and phone number.
